Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University, Kano (KHAIRUN), in collaboration with the Center for Gender Studies, Bayero University Kano (BUK), Learning Disabilities and Education Consult (LEDEC), and Bunny Hugs Therapy, commemorated the 2024 International Day for Persons with Disabilities on 3rd December. The event, themed “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future,” took place at the Alhaji Ahmed Mai Deribe Theatre, KHAIRUN.
The Chairman of the occasion, Alh. Usman Alhaji, former SSG of Kano State and Wazirin Gaya, warmly welcomed guests and emphasized the significance of empowering persons with disabilities to lead the way toward a more inclusive and sustainable future. He commended KHAIRUN’s unique curriculum, which integrates science, morality, Qur’anic recitation, memorization, and entrepreneurship, describing it as a foundation for success.
In his address, KHAIRUN Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdulrashid Garba, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to inclusiveness. He highlighted the facilities available at KHAIRUN, including a dedicated elevator for persons with disabilities, as evidence of the university’s determination to provide an accessible learning environment. Prof. Garba assured continued support and encouragement for all persons living with disabilities.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Hassana Sani Darma, Chairperson of the KHAIRUN Seminar and Public Lecture Committee. She expressed gratitude to all participants and urged relentless efforts in supporting persons with disabilities to promote an inclusive society.
